From a European point of view, it’s good to see how football design - or soccer design - was being viewed in North America towards the end of the last century.
The Major League Soccer - MLS - examples on show in these catalogue pages aren’t for everyone, and weren’t even in the 1990s, but what a snapshot of history.
More timeless are the Penalty Sao Paulo and Lotto Milan shirts - if not separated at birth, at least sharing a DNA segment or two - and the Puma Parma shirt is even accompanied by a match report from a game it featured in.
Contrasting with the MLS designs are the USA “jerseys” - staying classy to this day - and the Nike models Italy would wear, sans Swoosh, at Euro 96 in England. The hosts’ Umbro number was also available.
