This numberless spare shirt from the 1980 FA Cup Final recently went on sale at auction.
Eventually fetching £1600, the item will have been attractive not only due to its importance in the history of football - the team the shirt belongs to, Arsenal, were defeated by rivals West Ham United in the English football showpiece - but also thanks to its exquisite aesthetics.
The yellow and blue colour scheme had, by this point, become synonymous with the Gunners being forced to change from their red and white - often with glory following - and the embroidery included the Umbro chest logo and the famous cannon, as well as detailing celebrating the north London side’s third Wembley FA Cup Final appearance in a row.
The collared artefact also boasts a “Choice of Champions” print on the lower front, rendering the £750-850 estimate a little too good to be true - as was proven.
This item was sold by Graham Budd Auctions, a specialist in sporting memorabilia.
