This Northern Ireland shirt was recently put on sale by Graham Budd Auctions.

The green Northern Ireland No.7 international jersey, reputed to have been worn by George Best in his first year of international football in 1964, has Bukta and Athletic Stores labels and an IFA cloth badge.

Offered with correspondence with the Northern Ireland Football Museum's Facebook page confirming the style of shirt is consistent with a date of 1964, and that Best wore this style of No.7 on four occasions.

By family lore, this shirt was presented by George Best to an acquaintance in Belfast and was then inherited by this individual's son-in-law (now deceased) from whom the shirt was acquired by the Manchester United collector Ray Adler.

This is as much as the auctioneer can offer in terms of history. With a concrete provenance, the shirt would be a £20,000-30,000 shirt at auction but was offered with a caveat emptor estimate of £4,000-5,000.

Closing bid: 8,500 GBP
