Things did not start well when the side struggled to come back from a Steve Watson own goal in the opening match with South Korea, finally finding an equaliser in the 82nd minute through Ian Pearce.

Many future England internationals were part of this squad, unfortunately Sheppard himself was not one of them, after making 23 appearances for Watford between 1991-94 he moved to Reading before eventually dropping down to non-league football by '96.
