A recent auction sale, this Denmark shirt is a stellar example of one of the most celebrated football kit designs in history.
With mere replica versions of the Denmark 1986-87 Hummel “Mexico” “Danish Dynamite” Away shirt fetching eye-watering amounts, the £550-650 estimate on this apparently player-issued, long-sleeved version was always bound to be dwarfed.
Even the £2200 eventual sale price seems a snip. The item came with stellar provenance, via passing through the hands of a late Manchester United’s kit man and being on loan at the Manchester United museum, and the shirt even has former Red Devil and Mexico ’86 World Cup headline-maker Jesper Olsen’s number 8 on the reverse.
This item was sold by Graham Budd Auctions, a specialist in sporting memorabilia.
