Ferreira had been a part of the squad for the 1986 World Cup but was now nearing the end of his international career and played in only two matches in this year both against Bolivia.
The two sides met in Cochabamba in March and May and on both occasions the result was a 2-1 defeat for Paraguay. The side were preparing for the upcoming Copa America where they would reach the Quarter Finals. Ferreira starred notably overseas for Deportivo Cali, Sabadell and Velez Sarsfield and made 44 appearances scoring 7 goals in total for Los Guaraníes.
